Collection: Jean Carzou
Jean Carzou (born Karnik Zouloumian, January 1, 1907 – August 12, 2000) was an internationally renowned French-Armenian artist
whose works adorned Paris opera houses, illustrated novels by Hemingway and Camus, and captured the spiritual power of saints and
war alike. Born in Syria to an Armenian family and raised in Egypt, he moved to Paris at 17 to study art and architecture. Known for
his haunting, dreamlike line work and mastery across mediums, Carzou’s creations reflected both his Armenian heritage and his deep
response to the tragedies of war. A member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and recipient of numerous international awards, his
Chapel of Saint Joan in Manosque stands as his lasting masterpiece.
