About
-
Dey Young began sculpting in 1977 while studying at Scripps College in Claremont, California, under the guidance of renowned sculptor Aldo
Casanova. Over the years, she continued to refine her craft, gaining valuable experience from artists and teachers across the United States. Her
passion eventually took her to Italy, where she worked with local artisans in Carrara marble, further expanding her artistic range. Largely
self-taught in anatomy, she considers her deep understanding of the human form to be a natural gift. Her work has been widely recognized,
including the selection of four pieces by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as part of its Special
Projects, featured on the Art and Architecture Tour in both 2006 and 2012. In 2011, the National Sculpture Society showcased her work online
in their LOVE exhibition.
Young works across a variety of mediums, including stone, terra cotta, bronze, cement, and acrylic. Her sculptures have been exhibited in
numerous fine art galleries, such as Galerie Michael in Beverly Hills, Gallery Milmar in Carmel, Earl McGrath Gallery in Los Angeles, Janine
Contemporary in Santa Fe, Alexander Salazar Fine Arts in San Diego and La Jolla, the Mary Titus Gallery in Carmel, the James Gray Gallery,
and ArtLA at the Bergamot Station Arts Complex in Santa Monica.
Her sensuous and dynamic forms have been described as “possessing an effortless sense of movement, embodying spirit and emotion, and
representing a nod to the past while embracing the future.” Deeply passionate and versatile, Dey Young’s creative achievements are reflected not
only in her sculpture but also in her accomplishments as a stage and screen actress.
She currently resides in Los Angeles, California, where she is an active member of the Art Museum Council at LACMA.
Training: Dey Young trained at Scripps College in Claremont, California under renowned sculptor Aldo Casanova. She later expanded her
training in Italy, working with artisans in Carrara marble.
